I noticed I have a rather negative camber, more so on the near side than the far side. So, I whacked it on the wheel alignment machine at work and got a read out of "-2.8 Degrees Camber - Near Side, -1.4 Camber - Far Side."
Our theory is that my L/H stub axle is bent, as well as my car being in need of a adjustable camber kit. (Should I grab shim adjustable or thread adjustable?) Does this sound right? Or is it something not so bad/worse. I'm yet to physically check the car for a bend in the stub... but Im not sure if it'd be actually noticeable until compared with a new one. Just asking so I can budget for this bloody stuff up. If it sounds like I need a new stub axle, I may as well get new bearings, new pads, pick up an adjustable camber kit and machine my discs as well. I hate cars. Cheers guys.

have you checked the upper and lower bushes??
i doubt it would have a bent stub axle unless its had a huge side on impact... |

no way it could be bent, if it was the hub wouldnt run true, and if it is bent you'll have a hard time sliding the bearings off

Being -2.4 Degrees. I've only noticed it in the last week or so. I can't remember really smashing anything, other than some farrking pot holes...

How much have you lowered the car?
And this camber could actually happen from car being run hard over bumps - like having an extremely worn set of brakes that send the front of the car bouncing up and down every time you apply them at 120km/h down mountainous hills..... If car is lowered you should have added shims between upper and car body already... Maybe...? Maybe, like mine, you'll need an extra shim on one side to compensate for the beating it has had over 500,000km of travel on NZ's substandard roads.......? Yes, BUSHES DO GIVE OUT.... Oh - Just noticed your signature- Custom suspension. Whatever. I am sure that you are way ahead of me on this. |

Then it wouldn't have anything to do with the suspension? Seeing as though mine are either the same or just a bit higher than the superlows.

With Superlows you will need a camber kit, get it aligned and see what happens. $50.00 for an alignment. If you had a bent stub axle you would have more than a camber issue. Bent stub axle would give you brake issues as well as bearings.

If you want to find out if it's the stub axle you'll have to take the rotors off and try to see if its bent or measure it some how .
Best way would be to set it up in a mill and run a dial indicator over the axle . If you can pick up a second set of uprights you'd eliminate the stub axle as being the problem .

It isn't a bad deal at all. It's in good cond. (isn't bent or damaged) Comes with the disc and caliper too. I do my wheel alignment at work, so it's no big deal throwing it up on the 4post and having a look. Also, I do get bearing noise from the near-side too... so, it could be all leading to it. I guess I'll find out one way or another. Thanks
