The auto in my wife's EL is playing up and I've never really done anything with autos before. It's going in to limp mode and locking in 3rd gear.

I did diagnostics and it has a stored error for S2 solenoid.
The car can sometimes run for a full day before it goes into limp.
Is it likely to be the solenoid or could it be some other fault?
Could low fluid cause this to happen?
What electrical tests can I do?
