Hey guys, I'm having issues changing my serpentine belt, I can't seem to get the tensioner loose, its like its jammed closed, I put the ratchet in the square hole, its on undo but it just bends one of the pulleys in rather than undoing it.
I got my 1/2" drive ratchet with a 1/2 - 3/8" drive adaptor, but still won't budge Any ideas? I'm thinking about trying my impact gun. |

If I'm thinking the same as what you are saying then when the pulley bends in that's when you slide the belt of a different pulley then let the pressure off the tensioner

Doing that with the ratchet should swing the tensioner arm and pulley towards the driver side of the car (IIRC) and you can just slip the belt off. You can hold the tensioner in place by inserting a 5mm drillbit into a hole in it as well.
I'll look it up in my manual and see what they reckon...

You dont even need tools, just hold belt from slipping using your right hand between the PS pump and tensioner idler and 'LIFT' the belt from just above the alternator.
It takes all of 20 seconds to remove it. Actually, it probably cause less harm than forcing the tensioner with a breaker as its 'doing its job when you use your hands.

Also when you put the belt back on, leave the last pulley to put on a smooth one, not a grooved one, as it is easier to get it on the former rather than the latter.
