In the 2nd eddition of STREET FORDS MAG I see a black ED XR8 with a 351 injected windsor.
The questions I have are (1)can the 302 windsor & the 351 windsor be hybrid like what they do with RB26 with RB30? (2) are these an import only or can these engines be snapped up easy in OZ?

the 302 and 351 use different blocks
the 351 windsor is most commonly available in truck form from the F150's, etc

The 351 Windsor can be fit to an E-series but its not an easy job as the big engine really doesn't fit in the engine bay without clearace problems. Most just stroke the 302 (to 347ci usually although a 351ci kit is available) rather than using a true 351 engine.

Actually the only real clearance problem is with the bonnet.
Amazingly XR-Y type tri-y headers bolt in. I've been involved with a couple of these installs and was trying to convince a mate to put one in his EB Fairmont Ghia 5.0 but he chickened out. I was employed to fix a rather dodgy 351/EB conversion last year. They still had the poxy 5.0 headers on it which rubbed on the steering(I'll see if I can dig out the pics of this) and they had made this ridiculous adaptor block between the stock 5.0 upper and the 5.8 truck lower which of course will never line up properly. Some dumb-a** auto electrician had fitted the speed density F150 harness when he could added a couple of wires to the stock 4.0L harness and it would have fired right up!?! I saw that article about the ED. Unfortunately he wasted his money on the uni-s**t..... He could have woken it up with a bigger MAF and some 24's for less money! Smick lookin car(except for the red interior) though. Cheers, Pete. |
