my bf developed the ticking noise after an oil flush and it's had a pretty good life since new. I thought an oil flush at 100,000km would be a great idea... now I have the same lifter like non lifter/hla noise. Being a fairmont I just wind the windows up and turn on the climate control then the leaf stuck in fan noise takes over. Thanks changeable cabin filter. Late model cars are heaps fun.
With over 300,000kms thicker oil as a bandaid probably isn't a bad option. I'd take it in small steps up though I wouldn't go from 30 to 60.

lol it's still a nice car though. I've tried getting the vac with extensions and all sorts of things down there to get that one little half of a leaf that's ticking in that fan but stuffed if I can get it. It will come out when it's ready...
Just like e series lifter noise I don't think it's detrimental. Mine doesn't use oil so I'm not changing grades. I just live with it.

Turns out it's most likely a busted valve spring. But this mechanic couldn't get the VCT sensors out of the rocket cover, the previous mechanic must either have jammed them
In or glued them in. So, instead of replacing 2 VCT sensors at like 700 dollars each, I'll just get another motor. Was gonna try stretch this one out to 400,000km but looks like it probably won't hit 320. Oh well.

It would be nice lol but it's embarrassing to drive it with such a clatter... The quicker I can replace the engine the better

Hope thats not my caper at only 100,000 mine sounds more like a noisey injector harmony. well, its still going, over 318,000km now. the noise has never been worse, the timing chain rattles, the bottom end is noisy on deceleration, the power steering pump is about to let go, the VCT Actuators HAVE let go, it uses 25L/100km around town, and over the weekend i flogged the s**t out of it over to Adelaide and back and through the hills, but its still going! what a machine, this thing wont die. I even got p****d off at it a couple of months ago and put it in neutral and held it at 6,000rpm for about 10 seconds.... no change

lol nice. I'm impressed. So the money you're saving from not changing the motor is being consumed in fuel economy? not so nice but still informative. perhaps 60grade oil sounds ok hahaha.
