Hey guys,

Looking at replacing the auto in the Falcon with another second handie. It's a Series 1 1999 model - are all AU auto's the same?

Thinking of maybe buying a smashed AU XR6 or similar and strip it for parts.

Will it fit?

Close, the EA-EL all bolt up to any E-series as the only changes were minor revisions (pump pressure and the like). The AU btr's gained a new bellhousing, of which the two bottom most bolt holes won't line up with the E series blocks but were otherwise relatively unchanged.

However with the BA and BF, the solenoids and wiring were all switched around... so even though they were still essentially the same box, they had received a control update which makes them incompatible with AU and earlier.

yes, and before ef2 they still had a dipstick, and even thpugh the belhousing is different from e series to au, you can swap the bellhousings..

Dont forget though - you need the matching converter for the Box. EB was different to EL was different to AU I believe. So if you do the bellhousing swap thats ok, but keep using the original converter for that gearbox

Thanks for all your help guys - sounds like it's easier to grab an AU Box.
