hey my mate has an xf ute and we want to put an el sedan diff and brakes in it aswell as handbrake.
what tailshaft do we need ? the wheels will they have to be from an e series and will e series wheels fit on the front ? whats involved in adapting the brakes? any advice would be awsome cheers |

you cant directly put a sedan diff into a ute as the suspension is completely different.
sedan= 4 link coil suspension ute= prehistoric leaf springs..lol although a ea-el station wagon has leaf springs and the diff will fit... the tailshaft, you will also need a xg/xh ute or im pretty sure a station wagon one will fit aswell... unless you want to change the el diff pinion flange over to the xf one, and then you can keep the xf ute tailshaft |

sorry forgot to mention using the ute original leaf suspension,
some one offline told me today that the el diff housing wouldnt accept the xf suspension without modifing it |

that right, it wont work unless the housing is modified and leaf spring mounts are welded to the el diff..
why not just fit the el pinion,centre and axles into the xf housing??? |

thats sounds like the go ,

Won't the XF housing be the early type? and the the later center won't fit?

Yep the XF housing will be the 75 series and the guts of the later 78 series wont fit.
EB2 to EL wagon diff and tailshaft is what you want. Handbrake will be a make it up yourself to work job as the XH's used an EB style brakes. If you want to run the EL brakes you will need to work it all out.

Hi, I have a spare xh/xg (I have 2 lol) with 3.45 gears but there single legger diffs so you could fit the LSD out of the el diff in...

it should fit, my old ea's first diff was 75 series with 25 spline axles and i had 3.45 78 series gears ,centre and axles fitted in it..but i cant say wether of not the diff shop had to modify anything?

Done this on my xf.
Seriously it's a piece of piss. Use the wags alloy shaft too. Ea-Ed wagon diffs go straight in and if you get the handbrake cable then it will connect to the underfloor pivot under the drivers seat. No handbrake change Ed el require the floor handbrake which is what I did. In both cases you need to convert the imperial brake line thread to 10mm metric. Either get a brake place to do it or have a look on xfalcon how they do it. I got a brake line to fit up to the Ef aloy block. ( which strips easy if you heman the thread up). |
