I just adjusted my timing in my ed because it was way to far advanced i did it all by the book and bridged A and B together and adjusted it. But now if i open the throttle a little bit its ok but anymore it pretty much dies in the a**.. and also on startup it surges for about 20 seconds then the idle steadys up.. any help would be much appreciated

Did you wait till the engine died down after bridging the wires????
Was the engine at operating temp when you did it ?????

Was at operating temp but i ran it till it was warm, then turned it off and bridged the wires then started it and adjusted timing then turned it off unbridged them and started it again

What ecu are you running? Ed or el? Did you set it at tdc like the el or on the marking for the ed whuch is 8 deg or 10(not too sure which one)

If it still isn't right...you may need to check if the Harmonic Balancer hasn't spun the outer section.

And cjh, the motor has only recently been built the balancer is fine? Another thing i should mention is it hasnt been running right for a while but it was drivable |

You had to wait about two minutes after the revs drop for the test to commence and at the end of the self test codes the timing was locked to the base for 2 minutes... There is a noticeable change in idle once the self test codes have finished and then you get a couple of minutes to time it and then the idle changes back to the normal sound with the timing advanced after ward... This is the way I've always done it... Cheers, Tim

Engine off, disconnect ISCV, then start engine. Engine should idle, but very slow, like 400 to 500 rpm. Turn engine off, reconnect ISCV, and restart, and it should idle at 600 to 800 rpm.
