Hey,
My brakes have been shuddering for as long as I can remember, and i'm thinking of upgrading them whilst i'm at it. What bolt on options do I have in terms of upgrades? Can I fit BA or BF brakes (are XR6/XR6 Turbo/XR8 brakes bigger/better than standard)? I've also heard mention of using territory brakes, whats the benefit (if someone has rotor sizes that would be a useful comparison)? Thanks, Thomas. |

A set of BA/BF calipers would fit to your car no trouble ( but I would be getting NEW front hoses). The Brembos will fit as well but might be out of your price range. You can usually pick up a set or BA/BF calipers for the 298mm diameter front discs for about $50.00 a pair from a wreckers and jsut buy a couple of new discs for a BA/BF. Territory brakes are the same as the high series BF, 322mm diameter discs but you can't use the calipers, no matter what people say. The calipers off the BF high series would be ok for the job but much harder to get from a wreckers. The brembo type would set you back about $2200.00 (that's usually with Discs) from EBay. They are 355mm diameter rotors and you would need to make sure you got the hoses and mounting brackets with them to fit. There are advantages to fitting rear territory brakes to your car but there would be a LOT involved in doing so. Hope that helps. |

I've heard of people using fg brakes with the left/right brackets switched also.

Just bought an AU11 5.0L Auto Fairlane as project car - engine will be NA 600HP odd, TCI 6 speed 4L80E based ATX, Motec M800 ECU.
Brakes are early on the agenda. I have been offered Front & rears of a BF F6 Typhoon. Fronts are Brembo 4 pot 350mm rotors, rears are 330 ish. Are these standard on F6? what price? Will they fit & what else do i need to do eg offsets, rim size, uprights, brakets, etc? Richie

Richie The Brembos from the front will fit without problems (you will need to change the hoses) but the rear will take a bit of fiddling to get them to fit. I would also look at changing the front upper control arms as well from the F6 if you can get them, they offer the ability to adjust the camber. |

Is using the BF F6 upper control arms a better option that a camber kit?
Richie

what size rims to accommodate these? i can pick up the whole package (- hoses ) for less than $1500.
The rears are PBR apparently - what work is required to fit them?

I'm looking at getting 298mm DBA T2 front rotors, just read what you said about the BF F6 upper control arm... Would I be able to run them with that size rotor? Or would I need to go to the 350mm rotor?
If i can run them on the 298mm rotor, how much would I be looking at for those control arms? Just so I have something to reference to when I go to the wreckers...

Just so I have something to reference to when I go to the wreckers... 298mm is the standard size for BA rotors. As to the BF upper control arm, the difference is the brackets on them, the standard has shorter bolts while the F6, XR6, XR8 have longer ones. Might be worth getting a set of 322mm rotors and calipers? |

Thanks everyone for the replies, however after talking to the local wreckers and actually seeing the difference between a stock AU and a stock BA rotor (about 10mm overall - SFA) I will stick to the brakes I have currently, except upgrade to slotted rotors with QFM HPX pads.
Thanks, Thomas. |
