hey guys my missus has an 02 model xr6 and to me it doesent seem to have much power compared to my mates bA MK11 XT,
the fuel economy is very bad 2, i get beter economy in my BF XR8 y is this?
I was thinking maybe if i got a BF XR6 ECU it may change or if i bought a flash tuner and had it tuned
would it mayb make the fuel efficiency beter.
Is anyone else having any problems like this or would b able to tell me if this may work??

Series 1 BA's were shocking on fuel.....and Ford had a flash tune for them to fix it, ( that was back in the day, though ).
Another thing that happens is the Throttle body sh!ts itself, and you wont get good power or economy.....this happened to a mate, and they are not able to be sorted, so he got a 2nd hand one, fitted it, and some new coil packs too, and it is all good now. His was a 2003 model.

My old EL used to get bad fuel economy when the thermostat was stuck open, also when I worked at ford we had the occasional BA falcon come in with a faulty MAF sensor causing an incorrect air/fuel mixture giving poor fuel economy....

O2 sensor can also cause high fuel consumption...

+1 for the 02 sensor. They are a big cause of problems in the ba's even in the later mk2 ones. I'd also look at changing the coils and sparkplugs while you're at it.

my pretty stock ba, 03 xr6 gets 500+ to a tank easy... i am guessing this is due to not all 03 ba mk1 get this issue? it has 114000km on it, and very well looked after.

I Have previously Had it checked over by ford and another mechanic on the scan tool and they came back with nothing. i have cleaned the throttle body twice reeplacd the spark plugs twice and done a new o2 sensor and had no change. i havnt done new coils tho.
So if they did have a flash tuner for them would a capa one work mayb?

The throttle body wont show any codes.....they get out of wack....don't know how, they just do, and you can't adjust them either........just something to consider.

in regards to this if you are going to spend the money on a tune, you might as well put a few mods on as well, a throtle body upgrade could be the answer, if it is infact the problem. if it isnt, then you will get a few more killawasps when its tuned....
