I bent loads of clips, so had to come up with a better answer.. I used a mountain bike tube and screwed it down out of site under the airbox and the other end on the frame between engine and airbox.. looks ok as it's the same color as the air box and isn't really noticeable unless you look for it. (I'd forgotten I'd done it till I saw this thread) It also puts considerable down force on the air box lid.. and it stretches on the very infrequent backfires preventing damage to anything.
