Thinking of heading to the local drag strip for a run down the quarter mile.
I've never done it before, and want to know the basic skills that make a good run.
Like, what rpm do I sit on, etc.

I have an Automatic i6 EL Ghia.
Stage 2 Cam,
Oversized Ports,
Full exhaust.

I've thought of a few mods that I could do, but not sure if it'll make any real difference:
Octane booster, 98-100ron fuel, taking off the tailpipe, minimising weight.

What should I be looking at doing?

Cheers guys,
Russ.

Unless you your detonates on 95ron fuel 98 or 100 is a waste of time.
Taking the tail pipe off will only make you look like of 'those guys' and you won't go any faster.

The only real thing you can do just for the night is take out any thing that's not needed.
Spare tyre, jack, subs ect.

dont use octane boost it stuff's up the plugs get a tank full of E100( this has no ethanol) from united, take everything out of the boot, lower tyre pressures down to 20-25 psi dont get the tyres to hot on the burnout patch hold the stall to 2500 rpm if you can.... leave it in 'D' dont try to manualy shift & smash that throtle... with these cold night that were having engines luv it......... but above all go out & have some fun !!... :)

Cheers Joe!
I've got 19" on the front though, I was thinking of whacking some... unroadworthy 16" FTRs on the rear. Still put 25psi in?

use the standard size for the rear, the bigger the wheel the more rolling mass it has to rotate, on the fronts dont be to worried but pump the front tyres up to 40 psi just borrow some stockies for the back with decent tread & have a go......

Will do!
The fronts are already at 40psi, so I'll find some stockies that'll have tread.

Will 14" off an EA fit?

dont go with a full tank of fuel. try half or 1/3.

get some stockies or somthing with relatively decent tread with a high side wall. run em at about 25 psi.

im not sure if the standard convertor will get up to 2.5k but well worth a shot.

and go on the second yellow

What are you chasing? ET or consistency?

The basics is leave your car as is, avoid the water (no burnout), drive up to the line, left foot brake, pre stage (top light), revs up to 2000, inch forward to full stage, release the brake and stomp on it on the last orange. (green light only means you didn't leave the line too soon)

Don't brake on the finish line, just cruise to the end.

Check the paper you are given for reaction time, and 60ft time, half track MPH and ET and MPH.

Adjust start line revs up if bogged down or lower if wheel spin. Compare your paper again after each run and you will soon learn what your car does with the changes you make.

Do it for yourself and have fun!

Wednesday nights at Sydney Dragway, or step up and run competition style - Street Fighter at the NSW track Champs
