What's up ford world
I've decided to upgrade the speakers in the Ute I want 2 way components . But I'm stuck with the the daunting task of picking a brand I've heard nothing but good things about focal and I can justify buying the access (entry) or polyglass. I'm not using them for comps or anything but does anyone know if focals or rainbows are are actually worth that much more than just good clarions or kickers.....even fusions. |

Don't pick a speaker by what you read.
Go listen to them and see which ones you prefer. |

I think they're worth it, especially the top of the line stuff. Been there, used them and loved them. I guess it depends how much of an ear you have for sound quality and also how much you actually care to have such sound quality in your car.
After some big builds 10 years ago, I've spent the last 5 years content with my LTD's premium sound - not because its good, but I just save the SQ for the home theatre now. So just like MAD says, it gets down to what sounds good for you and what you want to acheive. The household names will have some cheaper offerings that will certainly give a modest improvement over the stock system.

The Focal Access range will be about as good as top line Clarion or Alpine splits (and be priced about the same). If you want some quality splits, spend the extra and step up to the Focal Polyglass or Rainbow Profi (at least). But as suggested, it's always better to audition them in person*. And MUCH better if you can find a car with them installed, sound boards in shops don't give an accurate representation (but better than the spec sheets lol). *Focals in particular have a "love it" or "hate it" tweeter. Other brands can also have distinctive traits (or colouration), they may or may not be pleasing to your ears.

Yeh pretty basic question I guess I was just wondering if focal lives up to the hype or of it's more of like a Nike.
It's just for a Ute so dont want to get too crazy just decent speakers. Any thoughts on 6x9s instead of subs |

Any thoughts on 6x9s instead of subs In short, yeah you do get what you pay for in audio - but the law of diminishing returns applies. Focals Kit No7 set, will set you back over 5,000$, is it 5 times as good as the next set down. No. But if you want that last little 1% of extra goodness then that's what you pay for it. As for 6x9 vs. sub. No contest. 6x9's suck at everything. Not big enough (or enough xmax) to be a proper sub, and mostly too many design compromises to be good component/split speakers. If you can't find a proper sub, get a slimline sub, if you cant' fit a slimline sub, then think about 6x9's.

Focals are a great speaker, i have used them and loved them but its also about setting up the perfect stage to block out unwanted noise, i suggest having go at dynamatting the hell out of everything in your car outer door skins, inner door skins, under carpet if its easy to access, back wall behind seats. it sounds like a lot of work but it is imperitive to sound quality no matter what brand of speaker you are running, and always run your speakers of an amp so they are getting adequate power to them. hope this helps a bit if you havent already done the job.
for the money though i'd be inclined to just acquire some mid level alpines and run of an alpine digital amp. Chris.
