Hello,

At between 100-110kmh on the fwy, the steering wheel seems to vibrate a fair bit. It is only small side to side vibrations, not the larger wheel alignment type vibrations...if that makes any sense.
Anyways, I just replaced the steering rack, tie rods and ball joints in my NF Fairlane, and got the wheel alignment at the time. But still seems to vibrate at those speeds.

What could the issue be? If it were a front camber/castor problem, wouldn't they highlight that to me at the time of the wheel alignment and suggest I get a camber kit?
Could it be the pinion angle thing I've read about recently? It is lowered, but not crazy lowered. I am yet to check which trailing arms are installed, etc.

Any help appreciated!

As above, also check your wheel bearings for any play. Warped brake rotors can occasionally cause vibration at highway speeds, any pulsating under brakes?

Mine had the same thing, worse while braking but it wasn't the disks. When I got new tyres I got them to swap the rims from front to back and it fixed it, so odds are it was a bent wheel. Try swapping your front and back rims and see if that fixes it.

Ok., It's an NF, which means it is fairly old ( no criticism intended) you have replaced the rack, tie rods and ball joints. Have you replaced/looked at the upper inner bushes? Have you looked at the radius arm bushes, both on the chassis and the lower control arms? Have you looked at/checked the lower control arm bushes (all of them??)

I hope you didn't accept ROADSAFE ball joints, because they are crap with a capital "CRAP"

Food for thought......................

Many years ago I had vibration at between 140 and 155-ish (gone by 160) - it turned out to be the Bitron puncture sealant I had put in the tyres. What p****d me off was I suspected that's what it was and called into Beaurepairs Catherine and asked them to unmount the tyres, clean / flush them out and remount them - but when I picked it up the f&^kers had simply done a balance check on the wheels "couldn't find and problems, mate". When I explained that the issue was starting at 140 they just stared blankly at me. Had to put up with it all the way to Broome :x
