Reading the post about temperature reading, mine usually sits just under the 'A'.
I've not bothered with it, but then someone said the heater shoud be HOT - I'm currently thrashing about the snowy mtns, and have found the heater does really blow out hot air, more luke warm. So, I figure the first thing to do is change the thermostat. I figure that one can be got from Cooma, and the gasket, and can do it myself. My question; have no manual (at home), so does the thermostat housing simply come off without anything else being done, i.e. removing the belt, etc?

Undo the fan belt cover (take off power steering lid and the nut) then there's 2 13mm bolts you gotta undo on the thermostat housing. Will come off after that, some coolant will drop, then get a flathead and pry the thermostat out (not hard, but you'll have to do this because it gets stuck in there over time).

Hi,
The thermostat is easy to change, make sure you bleed the air out once changed. Put the heater on max and run at about 2 K revs for 5 minutes. The gauge should read around the middle. In a Carb engine the Carb will ice up in cold weather with a dodgy thermostat. That is the reason there was often a winter lever on an air cleaner and a stove pipe. Funny thing, the car slows to a stop then the heat soak fixes it and it starts again. A difference of 10 degrees will make a huge difference to the heater. Regards 96ELGli

Took about 15 mins to put in.
Didn't do the "run at about 2 K revs for 5 minutes" thing as I forgot - will do it today. Needle now actually moves!

Car heater still not pushing through hot air, even when on max.
Trips have not been huge lately, but on a recent 15/20 min drive (Blue Mtns, very cold outside) the temp guage did not go above 'A' on NORMAL. The temp guage does move...can even reach 'M' if driving uphill, and quickly drops back to 'A, so that seems fine, but as I said, the heater, even after 15 mins of running, does not blow HOT air, just lukewarm, at best. Did see some stuff about the heater tap, but cannot find anything using the 'search'.

Sounds similar to my temperature gauge. Open your glove box and see if the heater cable is moving, then replace the heater tap, I'd say.

Many thanks for the replies.
Will check the heater cables are working, and change the heater tap. Cheers.
