Hey guys, was just curious on what would be needed to stroke the 4.0L Barra 182 out to 4.5L.

Obviously larger pistons, conrods, crank and to bore out, but how much would need to be bored out?
And round-a-bout price to have the engine bored?

CMS spent a long time developing such a thing and in the end it just wasn't viable.

He may have some stuff still in the work shop that He might part with if you give him call.

the money it would cost to do would not be worth it. could just get a Typhoon converstion and have alot more power for less price

Have you ever thought there are some of us that prefer N/A over a turbo? I did read up about CMS doing a stroker project for the 4.0L His previous plans were to push it out to 4.8L, but due to problems he reduced it to 4.5L, which produced quite a bit of power N/A for an E-Series falcon. I'll give him a call when I get back to Australia in 2 months lol cheers

You can turbo a standard e series for the same amount and have more power on the standard engine, with more room for improvement.
Though a stroker would be a nice sleeper.
You can destroke the barra, was told a while ago theres a kit for them. Will rev harder though it would lose torque

A stroked B series would be a great sleeper lol
If the internals were stronger, the revs could be increased past the 6,000rpm redline... I wonder what a stroked BA with 6,500rpm would sound like

And yes, I know that bolting on a turbo and blah blah blah boost boost boost would be cheaper for the power, but I've never been a fan of turbo's. I love the idea of pushing as much power out of a N/A i6. Travis has his BF XR6 making 235rwkw n/a, how much more do you think a stroker will push that out too? 260? 270? We don't know because no one has tried it yet....

Hi,

To stroke it you will only need a different crank and con-rods. This will increase piston speed meaning a lower max RPM. In the old days the stroke was the difference between a 351 and 302. Holden used ( 253 and 308 ) a different bore size meaning a different block. You only need new pistons if you bore it out. Many do this to get the Max size, but means if you recondition it you have to scrap the block.

not in the cleveland block.
in the windsor yes.
and its the same bore size just a longer stroke due to different crank throw ( hence the name stroker)
