Hey guys, thanks for reading my post.
I have found a problem, I found rust! One of the balls for a gas strut on the back door of my EL Fairmont wagon has had rust attach the body where the ball was attached thus being the end of the strut that attaches the strut to the back of the vehicle, not the end that attaches the strut to the back door itself. What should I do, has anybody had this problem before, can I get a replacement ball and small section to be welded in place of the original? I suspect the other one is not much better. Funny thing is there is no other rust to be found in the vehicle at all.... Thanks for your assistance.

Hi. This is not that unusual in the EF/EL models. I have also seen it in AU and BA models too.
EA-ED seem to be OK though for some reason. You are correct in that your only option is to weld a replacement on. I doubt you will get a new replacement, but I have heard of people using the front bonnet strut balls for donor parts for this. Cheers BenJ
