Hi guys, can you help?
My nephew purchased a ef xr6 copy a little while ago then blew the motor, he said it was blowing lots of white smoke, I'm assuming its just the rings. He said i should take the pod filter and inlet tubing for my el, so i did, while i was there i noticed a placard in the engine bay it was this vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv after some internetting he seems to have something worth a bit of money, now he doesn't want the car its sitting in one of the sheds. I can have it if i want. MY QUESTION IS. how much more poke will the DEV5 head and bits have than my tickford motor?? some info on my car. 97 model Tickford motor which goes really well LSD ratio unknown Lowered with pedders/ king springs all round Slotted brake rotors on all 4 corners 18 inch wheels Jim Mock Ultra Intake 2.5 inch exhaust with high flow cat cheers and thanks in advance for your reply's Ron |

Dev 5 head and cam package are supposed to make around 160-170 rwkw, a lot more than a stock tickford head and cam .

Well my xr6 with 977b cam and extractors made 157 rwkw.
A stock tickford motor probably 130rwkw-140 rwkw .

A stock tickford motor probably 130rwkw-140 rwkw . stock tickford isn't much more than stock factory. in the later e-series there was 7kw difference. A factory falcon of that vintage would land between 100-115 rwkw depending on state and transmision type, so maybe a tad over 120 rwkw for the XR6 verisons at best.

call jim mock workshop and ask them for the info on it as they either made it from factory order,or aftermarket setup a few years later
but you might want to check that the motor is original still and if the head is still the original one the heads & intake are n/a upgrade here from his website DEV5 >170kw $5,790 DEV "Street-Fighter" Headers (Extractors), Modified Cat, 2.5" Hi-Performance mandrel bent exhaust system, Hi-Flow Intake Kit, DEV5 Cam kit, valve train modifcations, Vernier adjustable Timing Gear. "Race-Series" Head, extensive porting and head performance alterations to race standard, compression increase and Special valve springs. All installed with new gaskets & seals. Top class Performance Street package also suits Street / Strip use with excellent fuel economy. ** |

Exactly the same stamp that I had for my old engine (actually still in my bay, but the engine is now long gone lol).
If it is the full DEV 5, he will have rusty headers / extractors that have a joining plate with 'JMM' cut into it, between 2 of the pipes. The JMM Ultra-intake certainly looks like what is in the photo, should be a pod filter in the airbox. You should ask him if the idle was a little lumpy (might even have been J3 chipped) and if it had the tell-tale JMM chain rattle (due to the JMM shaved head) before he blew it. If so, it would be worth grabbing that engine and reco'ing it ...at least the head, cam and rocker / vernier gear anyway. These engines are real powerhouses N/A (around 170 rwkw) ...typically 50 rwkw more than standard. Also good for boost because the cam is a high-lift, low-overlap type.

JMM advertise the DEV 5 as NOT needing engine management (runs off factory ECU) before the more aggressive profiles of DEV 5a etc upwards ...personally, I found a J3 chip and tune helped mine run a lot nicer.
Pull the LH bottom panel off the passenger footwell, the ECU is behind there ...if the black plastic cover on the bottom edge of the ECU has been pulled off, and there is a circuit board with a computer interface socket sticking out of it instead, then you have a J3 chip.
