Well went out and bit the bullet today, 30 bucks for a mintish sump! Well alot better than mine (no cracks).
I helped a mate replace the sump on his Mercedes 300se 1988 if anyones interested. His K Frame and underbody looked lowkey familiar, for that we had to undo the mounts and jack his engine up to get clearance. I'm hoping it will be much the same on the EA. Does anyone know if I'll encounter any clearance issues, i.e the pickup for the oil pump, or simply not being able to get the required clearance to withdraw the sump. Any help or advice/ideas would be appreciated, I understand it's usually a engine out job. |

I replaced the sump on mine. On new years eve
You might have an issue with clearance on the oil pump pick up.

Might be able to unbolt the oil pump itself. The problem might be refitting it.
If you are lifting it with an engine crane, it's not that much work to pull it out all the way. How are you planning to lift it otherwise?

1) Disconnect Driveshaft
2) Loosen off gearbox crossmember bolts 3) Position trolleyjack or possibly scissor jack on 100X100s under harmonic balancer 4) Undo engine mounts 5) Jack up to desirable height, as much as the firewall and radiator hoses etc allow 6) Undo sump bolts, and crack gasket off with swift UN-menacing jolt 7) Looking at my greogries manual and your supplied photos, undo the two bolts that hold the pick up to pump body. 8) Pray to god that I have desired angle and clearance to withdraw sump, might be able to position jack further away if i can cantilever it somehow off harmonic balancer to not make this an issue. 9) Sump off 10) New sump, new gasket, reattach pickup bolt up and bobs your uncle. Well kinda |

Might be an idea to take off the radiator fan or at least loosen the rad shroud.
Then you'll have thiiiis much clearance and avoid putting the fan through the rad and/or wrecking the fan. Hope all goes well with this.

Just won't have the victory beers for after or-wood across the guards, pack them up so as to not damage the guards,70x70mm wood.jacj the front up both sides and and pack the chasiss rails,so the wheels are 75 mm of the ground.rope the motor to the wood, exhaut and intake, make it all safe.them undo the engine mount to k frame bollts, then drop the k frame.some other bits to undo, but it will drop as much as you need, the sump should be easy.i changed the welsh plugs, oil pick up,sump and k frame on the v8 that way.

So a bar across the top of the guards, with rope attaching to both manifolds to hold engine up whilst the k-frame is dropped? How Sturdy is the top of the guards there?
Apologies if I misinterpreted what you were saying |

Apologies if I misinterpreted what you were saying in the inside edge of the guards and shock towers,it holds the car up.mechanics do it a lot with a bracket set up,i had a set up made, but wood will also work.
