Hi All
Just a quick question can you put speed senstive power steering on a ef fairmont if so what mods do I have to do? Is it just changing the switch on the power steering?

My EL Ghia has speed sensitive power steering and I hardly ever notice it, it isnt worth it

if you can't notice it, then ill say something is wrong!
But i also reckon that the conversion would be more hassle than its worth |

Isn't it a totally different steering rack or something, cause i was gonna rip the stupid speed sensitive power steering crap out of my onld mans EL Ghia. If you haven't driven a car with the speed sensitive steering, i would advise on driving one. Cause i would never get it myself, i hate it with a passion. If i owned a car with it, i would get rid of it.

New rack, new high and low pressure fluid lines and an adaptor on the back of the pump.
1.5 hour swapover job. And SSPS rules. Makes life with stupidly wide tires bearable. |

go down to your local ford and take a focus for a test - they all have it!

I have a question with this SSPS..
It may be the reason why i hate the thing so damn much. But even at 100km/h it is way to easy to turn the steering wheel, and even little bumps in the road make the steering wheel turn, which is almost dangerous... Is there a way to slow the steering up at speed, or could my old man just have a very sensitive one? (which seems rather silly) |

You could pull the plug on the SSPS actuator in the engine bay. That will turn it into standard steering feel.
It doesn't go into full unassisted mode until 120km/h, so at 100 it still is providing extra assistance. Nothing will fix that until he gets a cappa tune that can alter the SSPS assistance. If bumps in the road are pulling the car off track, I would think there was something else wrong under the front. Dud bushes most likely. Has it got factory tickford suspension? In my both Ghia's, I've never felt the steering was too soft at 100km/h. Bumps in the road, etc, never pulled me off track. It was and is always fairly stable. |
