I'm considering buying a hydraulic press to replace the ball joints on my EF Wagon in the next few months to save some time running off to a mechanic and then picking them up again. I'd also like a press that I could do larger jobs with in the future like rear axle bearings.
I'd appreciate advice on what to buy - 12 Ton, 20 Ton, other? Any brands too look for or avoid?

i wouldnt worry about a press, i brought one to to ball joints but it was s**t, kept flexing and shooting the packers out. plus you need a tool/jig to get the ball joints out, cost me $40 to get ball joints pressed out and in. so much easier.

agreed, the problem is the tooling.

If you want a press to do rear axel bearings & other large items you will need to go for a press that is rather tall, 12t will be enough force to do the job, but the press needs to be able to fit the axel into it.
In regards to the ball joints, tooling makes all the difference, there's a special tool for making life easy in regards to doing the ford ball joints, if your going to do a few sets it might be worth buying it, if only one or two sets it's just not worth it. Cheers ToranaGuy
