Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows any good and cheap places around the sydenham/taylors lakes area where I would be able to get my radiator cleaned out?

Do it yourself man. So easy to do. Just buy, i think 5 litres of concentrate which should be enough and disconnect your bottom hose. Drain that into a bucket then reconnect hose and fill system with water and/or radiator flush. Then run it on idle for about 5 mins. Drain again. Repeat until all fluid that comes out is clear and refill with the coolant mix.
Very easy, dont pay anyone to do a half an hour job for u!

Also to reverse flush the rad so that all the crap gets blown out backwards, disconnect the top rad hose. Then, get your garden hose insert into top hose connection and seal with rags then block off header tank connection. Turn on the water and flush until it runs clear. It's also a good idea to hose the fins from the engine side to get rid of dirt, bugs, small birds etc. Best to remove rad from car to do that.

I did mine a while ago. I flashed with water first then filled it with a solution of oxalic acid and ran it for about a week. When I drained it, chocolate like water came out. Reverse flashed it and run it with water for a couple of days, Flashed it again and filled with fresh coolant. No more overheating. My car is a 1989 LTD with 380,000 KM on the clock.

thanks for the replies guys, i have always changed my own coolant, but i think my radiator is becoming blocked and is beginning to overheat. Also i have a brownish colour in my overflow which i have been told could be rust. But with changing the coolant anyway the bottom hose is there any trick to getting to it as mine is pretty hard to get to. Is it best to attack it from the top or bottom lol?

There should be a drain plug in the bottom near the bottom hose. There is an access hole in the rad cradle.

Oh ok and this is the same for an EL?

It should be the same. I don't know why they would change it. When I bought my radiator, it said EA to EL on the box IIRC.
