No way man I put a pod filter straight onto my throttlebody and it makes a sweet 'whoosh whoosh' noise when I gun it and it totally feels like it has about 8.63 more kW! MY EXPERIENCES AND INTERPRETATION OF SUCH ARE MORE VALID THAN FACTS!

Cheers for the links though!

They need to test a car that actually has some decent power.

Yeah, I'd like to see similar testing done with an N/A car. When I first started modding my ED way back when, I replaced the choked airbox to TB pipe first up and saw/felt a definite improvement - then fitted K&N filter - which to be honest I admit made no noticeable difference, but a decent quality filter can never be a bad thing. The most interesting thing was when I drilled holes in the outer top side of the airbox - in spite of all sorts of people saying the factory inlet trunk is more than adequate - and found that there was enough pressure differential across those holes at high rpm that they whistled...

Does an R34 have an intercooler in the standard package?

If so, then it's less likely to benefit from the cold air.. since the turbo heats it up and then the intercooler cools it down again.

I don't really see any difference to any car running a cold air intake or not on a dyno.
All it's going to suck is air from the surrounding area, hot or cold (more than likely hot from the engine)
The purpose of a cold air intake is to draw cool air from the front of the car while it's driving not standing still.
Myth not so busted....by people who obviously have no idea what a cold air intake actually is or how it does actually work.
My two cents worth anyway.

i would have liked to see the air pressue wave and volume at 110ks in both tests.a industrial fan is unkown and as we know the faster the speed, the more pressure is at the front and forced down the throat

they did have that huge a** fan feeding air to the front of the car, but at the end of the day their test can only really simulate the effects..

Many years ago I spoke to a mechanic who'd done training with BMW (the workshop he worked at specialised in BMW / Mercedes etc.) - he told me about an activity they did where they had an EB or ED Falcon which they did various things to and then checked results using a G-Tech.

The sorts of thigs they messed with I gather were different types of air filter, different ignition timing, various spark plugs and gaps etc.

He was saying that as far as intake goes they found the greatest improvement came from running the car with the bonnet "popped" - ie. that gave consistent and repeatable improvements in 0-100 times. He said different types of filters made little difference and they were all surprised at the bonnet popped result - including the instructors...
