Hi,
I am assuming it is a controller for a trailer / caravan. I dont think there is a connection in the car for it. Last one I did was 4 wires, quite easy to do. They would have been a dealer fitted item most likely. Keep in mind the Brake light switch is a common failure, so if you are towing check the brake lights regularly. Do you have an extra Trans cooler ? Good luck with it 96ELGli

Brake controllers are a 4 wire item: if using haymen reese
1) 4mm wire to auto reset 20amp circuit breaker at battery, then to white wire on controller 2) use 4mm wire to earth in cabin (black on controller) 3) 4mm wire from output signal wire at brake lamp switch to red wire on controller 4) 4mm wire from blue wire on controller to pin 5 on trailer plug at bumper bar |

Yes, I have the manual for the brake controller. I'm wondering what the existing wires are hooked up to because when I put the car in reverse the brakes in the trailer are put on rock solid. I'm wondering what controls this. I would love to get a wiring diagram for the car so I can trace out what's going on.

The problem is your car socket and trailer plug are uncompatible.
One or both are not wired correctly. With the Hella plugs the right indicator sets off the trailer brakes if you try and inter change 5 and 7 pin. |
