if your odo/trip com in your ford is dull/faded and barely readable , take a pic of it with your digital camera with flash on and in the pic the odo will be lit up like new and easily readable!!

Why not replace the globe ? It is on when the car is running, so is most likely the first to fail. If not blown it may be badly blackened. The globe is often not removable form the holder, so replace the assy. An LCD doesnt produce light, which is why there is a " backlight "
