Hi guys, trying to get my au1 fairmont project car ready for blueslip, all that is left is the front suspension, im getting a creaking sound from the front when i rock the steering wheel back and forward and when turning so ive jacked the car up on stands (doesnt do it when off the ground) and looking at the bushes they look pretty rooted, all cracked, especially the ones that the tie rod ends are conected to.
My question is, is replacing all the front bushes something i can do myself? Or are there special tools required? Ill be picking up a manual in the next few days. Also ive looked at getting the bushes on ebay, and theres a super pro front suspension kit (polyeurophane, upper and lower control arm, strut to control arm, and sway bar d mount bushes. ) for $265 delivered, are these all the bushes ill need and are they any good? And if it is too complicated to diy, any idea what it would cost in labour to have it done? (ballpark figure) Thanks |

Doing the front lower control arm bushes is a pain, and you'll need a press and press dollies to suit the job you want to do.
Did you check the ball joints for wear???.....what about the Rack Ends??? How are the front wheel bearings????....they are a sealed hub unit on AU onwards.

Hi mate, the front right wheel bearing needs doing, ive already got two replacements ready to go in (figured id do the otherside too) just gotta take it in to the mechanic to get done (could do it myself but i dont have a torque wrench that will go high enough). Hmm sounds like im going to have to get a mechanic to do all the bushes, and check it all out probably pricey.
As for ball joints no idea what they are (i would know if i saw a pic, not down with the terminology tho) Are they the thing the tie rod end goes onto ? |

Will a three jaw bearing puller work to get the bush out?
