G'day,
I'm installing power windows into my EB and decided to also change the door locks and door looms to the illuminated type. I noticed that the dash loom is missing the two wires required to make this work. When I hook up the door lock to power it lights up although when I hook power to the door loom or to the handle wires it doesn't work. Any idea why this is the case? What should I hook the extra two wires in the door loom to? Thanks

As I recall it, the wires would be part of the high series dash loom and connect to the Green high series body control module.
I think the wires are violet from memory. Cheers BenJ

Yeah and those door lock lights were PITA IIRC... Wires got hooked in linkages and the silly switch thing which bolts onto the handle developed corrosion enough to not make a circuit...
To make them work you'll need the high series dash loom and BCM as Ben mentioned... I have numerous high series door looms here which I've pinched the power windows wires out of for conversions... I'm sure there was something funny with them too like they shared a wired with the door locking actuator or something? I remember looking at them think how the hell does this work... Cheers, Tim

Hi Ben,
Yes the two wires in the door look that are missing from the dash loom are violet. Pitty as I thought all that would be needed would be needed is power as it looks like a simple set up. Ill try find the wiring diagrams Thanks

Yeah it's not really a useful thing but thought I may a well use the feature if it's there. A bit of a bummer really was a alot of effort taking the handles out, replacing all the locks including ignition barrel and boot to match etc.
I have a few options: - hook the light to footwell lights only with out the handle feature. - replace the door loom with another set I have with out the extra wires - leave it as is and not bother with it Im thinking of option 3 as my car has been rust protected and has gooey greasy stuff absolutely everywhere so I don't want to mess with it again lol. But I know I couldn't think of having it in there doing nothing so I'll prob go with option 2.

Na they were complex because when you lift the handle with the doors locked they light up and it also lights the interior light up (terrible for car security)... Then it all times out and goes dark again... When the doors are unlock I don't think it lights up... The idea was, before you had a button to unlock the car you could walk up and lift the handle and it'd illuminate to show you where to stick the key in door... Hence it is now obsolete as cars nearly don't have door locks at all... And regardless still, nobody uses a door lock to unlock a car...
Did early high series support the interior light coming on when you unlock the car? I thought they had delay off when you close the doors though? Wiring will be simple I'd day... Those two wires would nearly run back to the BCM... And that'd be about it... Hard part would be wiring the BCM into a low series dash loom... Attached is the EB-I part out of the Ford workshop manual... You didn't specify but I down it changes much... H runs onto L and L runs onto H... Cheers, Tim

Thanks for the diagrams mate. Yes I understand how they work had a few cars that were ghias and had the lights including some x series ghias. It was the ultimate thing seeing them light up as a kid so it's more of a sentimental thing if anything. Def not practical hence why I mentioned the wiring up straight to interior light, that way they would light up, albeit not like they should work but still something.
Thanks again
