Just sold my EF Fairmont and acquired a nice tidy AU XR6.
Done 245,000km but in very nice condition - looks like it's been well loved and serviced (but hasn't come with any service history - got it from a dealer's clearance centre). The owners manual says regular servicing of the trans is not required. This sounds absurd to me. What's the opinion here on servicing the transmission on this model? Any input much appreciated.

in fords wisdom they decided the auto in el onwards dont require servicing.
as far as ford is concerned as long as it out lasts the waranty is all that matters and once the box fails it should be replaced. its a curious questionable subject..would a unserviced trans last 300'000km? as a rule of thumb most trans shops reccomend a service every 20'000km or 12 months.. |

I did a trans service myself (filter and fluid) on my 4.0 EF - is it pretty much the same procedure on the AU? (Don't have a Haynes manual organised yet so not sure).

pretty much the same procedure( same gearbox), except au dont have a dip stick.
so there is a fill bolt on the side of the box instead.. |
