Hey hoping someone may be able to help me. Am willing to try anything.
Here's whats happening. misses got a manual el xr6 and when u rev the motor it takes good 5 to 10 seconds for the motor to go back to idle when just sitting there. when driving also does the same. the revs just sit there than very slowly come back. I have replaced the computer as that what mechanic come up with. 150 later!. than also just put on a new ISC which is another 100 bucks. and still nothing. Few blokes say it normal but that cant be normal. el xr8 i got revs come back perfect and can make good gear changes. where as the xr6 well its like every gear you are taking off with the car doing 2000 revs!. Any help guys would be great, next step looking like put on computer. |

Also when you tap the throttle it goes up to say 1200 rpm sits there for about 5 seconds than returns to about 900.

Check for vacuum leaks and check the ignition timing, but particularly vacuum leaks. Also clean the throttle body.

fOUND THE SAME ISSUE WITH MINE TODAY>found the idle doo-dad after the throttle body not connected to a plug.Once I connected it the slow return to idle issue appeared.I came to find answers also.Thinking that the idle thingy is sticking.
The connector has a securing clip at the bottom, remove the connector and see if the idle issue changes, mine has been broken. Can anyone confirm whether the idle thingy sticking may be the cause? |

You can clean the idle speed control solenoid (ISC). Remove and spray out with carby cleaner. You'll have to replace the gasket though.

Fix the vacuum leaks. Set the base idle by unplugging the ISC and lower the idle speed untill the motor just and i mean just doesn't stall. then turn it off and plug the ISC back in.
If it still hangs to much you can bodge it by making a new gasket for the ISC with a smaller hole/s in it. Or you can get a J3 and change the dash-pot setting until the hang is gone. |

I spose more info would be helpful with replies.i bought this XR6 dual fuel recently and found it runs rough after 3,000 RPM on gas, fuel acceleration is OK.Looking over the engine I noticed the idle control plug off and put it back thinking it may be the cause. That is when this slow reurn to idle began.I'm suggesting to nmacintire1990 to remove the plug and see if it makes a difference with your issue and asking the experienced forum members for any insights.
Seems from the responses so far proper tuning and cleaning or possible replacement of the idle control may do the trick.I don't know the real history of the car and assumed the plug was off because of the securing clip being broken. It now seems its removal was to solve other issues. Thanks everyone. |
