So im in my new house and I've been wanting to build a little stereo in my shed so I don't have to run the cars one but havnt found the bits i want...
But I do have a load of old car audio gear. Now I was thinking if I have a car battery charger charging a car battery running a amp that's running some speakers this should work yea? I won't be running a sub so hopefully the sound won't be so dirty. Does this all sound plausable |

you will want a power supply rather than the battery and charger.

yeah few years ago i done the same thing with my brothers old audio gear, was running an average pioneer headunit with 4 speakers and a 1000w monoblock powering one 12" xplod sub.
only a $50 battery but seemed to play at a good volume for roughly 45mins, but usually kept it on the car battery charger for a constant supply. had neighbours complain about window rattles so you can get it cranking enough if you really wanted.. lol.

I did something like this last year as a school project. just got a few bits and pieces from pick-a-part and built a box around it. EB headunit, 4 speakers, 12v 7a sealed battery, and of course the trusty cassette auxilary cable. No amp but still does the job alright.
It currently lives in a locker at school and gets the ocassional blast on a rainy day. good fun

Yea awesome guys, I won't be using it often as saddly I'm not in the shed often.
But im getting p****d in there this weekend with some mates so music is a must. And I wint be running a sub because the shed just flogging rattles like a VL. I should be able to plug a RCA to aux plug into the input on the amp and use my iPhone for trax ? |

Find an old computer PSU. They have a 12V output. I think a 500W PSU is good enough to power a system. Unless you are running stupid high powered amplifiers.
500W PSU, 250WRMS 4 channel amp, 2 speakers and 1 sub should be enough for a shed system IMO. Just don't run too much power off the PSU.

Just rigged it up last night, subie battery, 2channel fusion amp, a pair of sharp house speakers and and a decent powered home audio sub. Sounds pretty good, heaps loud without distortion and lasts About 3 hours at half volume before it starts to distort.
Awesome for free. Only trouble was the ants nesting is both speakers and all through the amp on the sub. Like full on nesting. |
