Hi all, just got myself a 09 fg xr6 non turbo and was wondering what mods can be done, nothing over the top. I'm looking at a cold air intake and an exhaust, if anyone could recommend some brands or trustworthy mechanics around the melbourne s.e subs.

Thanks

hey mate i got the same car, 09, 6spd auto non turbo, first thing you want to do is go get a K&n panel filter and put that in, when you have the airbox apart theres a restrictor on the top section, pull that out aswell, for a bigger intake, go on ebay and get a FG XR8 intake, this will make a huge difference...

this is what i have done so far and it changes the car so much its unreal... all up you'll probley spend 300-350 for the xr8 intake and the filter... there are growler kits for them... but unless your gana do a full exhaust aswell and get it tuned they arent really worth the money... exhaust wise im looking at the packs you can get off ebay... they have pacey extractors, high flow cat section and redback catback for 1400, and its all ready to bold on...

theres alot out there, just have a look on ebay its the best place to start...

Thanks for the info. I've heard mixed reviews about removing the restrictor tho?
Was also looking at the growler cai. But again a lot of people saying its not worth it. I've tried looking on eBay but not much luck. That and I'm not the greatest eBay fan.

Thanks heaps

Take the restrictor out see what difference it makes, if you dont like it you can always put it back in... It does change the cars behavior majorly, iv been tryin to find something that continues the velocity effect but doesnt restrict the size of the pipe... Not luck as yet... Let us know how ya go...

Best thing you can do, is get LSD (if your XR6 doesn't have it already) and better diff gear ratios. Most people recommend 3.73:1
You will notice a massive difference in acceleration speeds, but the car will rev a little higher while sitting on the highway. But hey, who mods their cars for power and speed and still expects great fuel consumption?

I'd go the SS Inductions Growler tbh... They make the car breathe half as much more than what the XR8 scoop will allow, and plus it adds a killer growling sounds effect under acceleration.
Get a full exhaust system, from headers through to tips etc. This will cost you anywhere between $1200-$1600. If you're looking at pushing a bit of power out of the XR6, (anything more than say 200rwkw) then I'd go twin 2.5", saves having to upgrade in the future.
Get underdrive pulley kit for about $300, they free up about 6-7kw from the AC, Power Steering etc.
If you're after more power, get camshafts with valve springs, fuel pump and larger injectors. Lastly, custom tune her on the dyno and be quite impressed with the amount of power the FG's can make with $6000 of modifications.

Ok So I took out the restrictor last night and the car does feel very different. At around the 4000rpm range I'm hearing a dull whistle sound, hopefully normal and also in neutral it won't rev past 3500rpm, Im hoping that it's just a case of the computer adjusting to the extra air, if anyone has experienced this please reassure me that it's all good

Cheers

If it's the auto, then that is just the factory limiter so you can't go doing stupid s**t like D-Bombing. In park it's a different story, you can usually rev it straight to the redline no problems.

The whistling will just be that little bit of added airflow I'd assume?

dont get 3.73 diff behind the ZF. at most 3.46 but recommended is 3.23 as the gearing in the box is preety good and isnt like the stupid btr.

and no fg xr6 sedans got lsd (except turbos and utes)

Mate when looking at your exhaust, have a look at the Xforce Varex muffler. It is an electronic muffler which can be altered from quiet, half open (louder) or fully open ( awesome loud :) ).

Very funny...not. There is nothing unique about that though

You're kidding right?
I noticed huge gains in my granddads BA when I put a KnN in. And since they are like $88 bucks.
