yup... it certainly is... before I pulled it all out I got underneath and tried to tighten it.... clearly I didn't have the right tool for the job as I couldn't get my torq bit and tiny rachet on enough to turn.
but now that I have it out, I can tighten it right up, slide the shaft back though the firewall and straigth back onto the intermediate shaft which I didn't disconnect. I also marked exactly where they came apart so I can have identical alignment. I've never had 100% perfectly straight steering wheel when the car is driving straight before and I'd like to keep it. I wonder if the bolt was loose because they slid it off to align the wheel? all I know is that there was no clunk before the wheel alignment. I also wonder if it was vibrating loose, how much further it could have vibrated before I discovered my steering wheel no longer dictated direction to my car.... bit dangerous potentially. |

Everything should be keywayed IIRC, no marking required.

true.. there is a big flat spot.. I was concerned that you could still be a tooth out and still fit the bolt in.
better safe than sorry.. steering is all back together, working fine, clunk is gone and assured myself that the bolts are as tight as I Can make them. thinking about telling pedders that they did something potentially dangerous in not tightning the bolt after aligning the wheel. |

Yes, attention to detail is sometimes lacking with them.
