Just wondering about peoples opinions on the Garret TA45 on an EL V8. This turbo is rated to about 700HP, which is a little more than the end result after i'm finished with the car. Is this a good size turbo for this engine to run with stock internals for the time being, then upping the boost and flow once bottom end is strengthened and heads etc are upgraded down the track?
Also is there an off the shelf turbo manifold for these engines or is a custom job the only way to go? I'm a bit clueless with the whole forced induction side of things so any tips or help would be great. Cheers |

a TA45 would probably be a nice sized turbo to use.
Adrian Vella's 10 second EL Ghia I6 uses one, so i imagine for less power & slightly larger engine it'd be well suited.

Id look at a bigger unit, its not much bigger than my modded T4 and Im looking into a bigger unit soon. Im no expert on what turbo will physically fit in an EF eng bay though, but maybe a minimum of a T66

I think you'll find a TA45 compressor is larger than a T66. The TA45 is a truck turbo, when bought 2nd hand they run a turbine housing in the 1.32 region. This will need to be reduced even on a V8.
If you want to run a good street turbo I would use a 62-1 comp wheel. That supports up to 650fwhp, more than enough to split the block in half and works well at low boost pressures (<15psi). A TA45 likes above 15psi due to being a truck turbo but will work OK below 15psi. |
