Does anyone know if it is possable to rewire an aerpro powered antenna (internal circut for winding) so it can recieve instructions from the BCU in an NA fairlane?

The one in my fairlane has broken off and i have tried to remast it and it is impossable in my situation and i have done more damage than good in doing it.

one would assume all the BCU does is puts one polarity down the line when winding it down and then cuts power when it reaches the top and does the revers for the bottem.

Has anyone done this?

The BCU has what is called a "H" drive circuit controlling the antenna.
This, basically, applies + and - to the wires to drive the antenna up and applies - and + to drive it down. There is a high impedance +ve on both wires when the drive circuit is idle.
The wires in the antenna assembly go directly to the antenna motor.

The duration of up and down is controlled with timing...is why you hear "click-click-click" when the antenna reaches fully up or fully down.

The Aerpro antenna is different.
It has two wires, but one has +12v contsantly and the other is a control wire.
Ground return is via a third black wire strapped to the chassis.
It goes up and stays up when +12v is on the control wire and goes down and stays down when the +12v is removed from the control wire.

Easiest way to install one of these is to wire the control wire to Accessories so that antenna is up when accessories is on.

It would be possible to rewire the Aepro antenna.
One would need to disassemble it and bring the two wires from the motor out.
These two are then connected to the 2 wires that the original antenna was connected too.

Be careful when playing with the control wires to the BCU as one can burn out the H drive circuit way before the fuse blows.
