silly question, one of the rear head bolts is stripped on my spare motor, not very badly but i suspect i wont be able to remove it the normal way, so now im asking how should i remove it without damage to the tickford head, the cam and hla have all been removed before hand.

i know i can weld something to the headbolt but i dont have a welder, my mate has a stick, i cant really get in there with a grinder, and im terrible with a dremel and small cutting disc/ dont want to damage the head. the motor is in the car still so i couldnt drill down the middle of it :evil:

are you using impact gun sockets? they grip on much better.on my mates motor normal socket would strip it but then we tried the impact socket and no problems

nah i bought a good sidchrome one that is only single hex, i did think about going and buying a set of impact sockets, the sidchrome one has removed almost 2 heads now without a problem until i got to this one bolt :(

pop down to your local tool shop and try and get one of these. http://www.stanleyproto.com/default.asp ... alog=PROTO they have saved my a*** plenty of times

i went down and bought some impact sockets at bunnings and they worked a treat, i did see these down there and thought bout buying them but havent herd of them before so i just went with the impact sockets, thanks for the link though, at least i know if i need to i can buy them and use them aswell

they are great. they get tighter as you undo, but obviously can only use them one way.

It's rounded not stripped.
Stripped is when you f**k the thread.

Get a cheap socket and weld it to the bolt.

I've gotten them out with using a slightly larger nut, and welding down the guts of the nut to the head of the bolt, and undone it that way.

It also helps to crack all the bolts in order, if one wont crack tighten the ones around it back down then try the stuck one again.
Sometimes if one is stuck you can put load on it with you're breaker bar and get someone to hit the socket End with a hammer. Shock it loose.
