ED XR8 had 165KW and 388Nm,
get extractors, a sports exhaust all the usual stuff to start with, it all kinda spirals out of controll after that

Is it manual? You have a few choices:
1) Manual Conversion 2) Usual exhaust, pulleys etc 3) Save a tad more and get a 2nd hand S/C

Get an AU top end with the 65mm tb, Explorer intake, gt40p heads, and grab an AU MAF sensor.
Also get rid if the crappy headders, for some try-y extractors. I have seen plenty of AU 5.0 motors for $2200, so you could do a swap, and have cash left for exhaus work, not to mention labour saving costs, and then you could sell your old motor too. Much better than a S/C at this point in time IMO.

I agree. AU top end is great bang for buck. Before the heads go on, open them up a little, find a good cam.. some of the GT40P equipped engines had roller rockers already also.
I'll have some costings and power output from my 'OEM' buildup, though the figures will be skewed a bit due to the displacement changing, but yeh.. can prove that the AU OEM gear can flow enough for a 355
