I am looking for someone who might be able to measure the resistances across some pins on Ford Diagnostic tools that are used for BA/BF/SX/SY Airbag Diagnostics.
Ford Service have 'diagnostic tools' that they use to diagnose airbag faults. The idea is that you disconnect the battery, then disconnect all the airbags in the car, and put special 'tools' on the ends of the connectors on the vehicle loom to terminate the line. You can then reconnect the battery and run full diagnostics on the Airbag Module or do other harness testing without fear of the airbags going off. As far as I can tell, the only thing these 'tools' do is bridge connectors with a certain resistor value. 1/4W resistors will do (although they'd burn out if the Airbag Module actually tried to fire the airbags off). Is there anyone out there with access to the airbag diagnostic tools that might be willing to measure the resistance across certain pins with a multimeter for me? The tools are: 418-F395 - Drivers Airbag (4-Pin connector) 418-F403 - Driver and Passenger Seatbelt Pretensioner and Passenger Airbag (4-pin conector) 418-F088 - Driver and Passenger Side Airbag (3-pin connector) I know which pins on the tools need to be measured, and I have a fair idea of what resistances I should see, but I would like to be certain. And no, I have no intention of measuring the resistance across an actual airbag..... Luke |

The little bridge-plug on seats with no side airbags shows a resistance of 7 Ohm. And this is also what I read out of the Airbag Module.
However, when they have real airbags installed, and indeed the two front airbags as well, all read between 2.2 and 2.9 Ohm on the Airbag Module. So I don't know if this is a margin of error or if the resistances need to be accruate. I can get 2R2, 2R7 and 6R8 1/4W so I'll try all of those. Otherwise I'll make up some closer values using parallels. Luke |

Any had any luck finding any information about resistances to simulate the air bag for the BA.
I am currently looking for the same information. I building a kit car that uses all the harness and modules from a BF Falcon. I have removed the air bags completly, but I need to simulate them to ensure I can clear all fault codes from the ecu. I have the plugs from the seats that was mentioned and also the plug and resistor from a BA ute without passenger airbag to simulate the passenger airbag. All the resistors in these plugs are 6R8 ohms. I just need information about the drivers air bag, and if relevant the pretensioner and what significance the drivers seat position sensor has do to do with the SRS system( this sensor is wired into the airbag module.) These are the values I've measured off my car using an OBD2 diagnostic tool with all airbags in place. I'm not sure if the variations in resistance are because of genuine differences, or because of extra resistance in the loom.
Drivers Side Airbag - 7Ohm Drivers Side Airbag 2 - ? (Did not collect that data - oops) Drivers Buckle Status - Buckled or Unbuckled Driver Pretension - 2.5Ohm Drivers Airbag - 2.8Ohm Drivers Airbag 2 - 2.8Ohm (Because it's 2-stage airbag) Passenger Occupant Classification - measures passenger weight for 2-stage airbag Passenger Side Airbag - 7Ohm Passenger Side Airbag 2 - 7Ohm Passenger Airbag - 2.3Ohm Passenger Airbag 2 - 2.2Ohm Drivers Track Position Switch - Forward/Rearward (for 2 stage airbag) Passenger Buckle Status - buckled or Unbuckled Passenger Pretensioner - 2.5Ohm Lukeyson |

Those figures came from the OBD2 data? (if so - cool.)
Or were you game with a multimeter?

Thanks for the information. I inserted resistors in the connectors and now the only faults left( I think) are safety belt buckle switches. As this is a hall effect switch I think I will have to go the wreckers and measure the the resistance of one. If like the seat position device it probably will be in the K ohms. I did measure the drivers air bag with a multimeter. Fully disassembled, module held in the vice, ear plugs in, safety glasses on I measured 2R2 ohms for the black connector. The 418-F395 tool from Ford measured 2R3 ohms. What OBD2 scanner are you using? Warren

A combination of an old Serial ELM327, a Drewtech Mongoose ISO/CAN, a mish mash of bits of software all over the place, and hours and hours of reverse engineering time.....plus the occasional encounter with knowledgeable - and generous - fairies.

Sorry to drag this one back up, I need to substitute some of the airbags with resistors for my Patrol build, I have the schematic but unsure on the dual stage bags which pins correspond to each stage.
Also the single stage ones have 3 wires with one being ground, I assume the two non ground connectors are the ignitor - is that a corect assumption? Last one is does anyone know what the pins on the pretensioners are, I assume two are the ignitor but is theother two a plain switch or something else?
