Hi all, quick question,
is it common for the coolant light to come on when the coolant is full? has anyone had this problem before, would it be safe to say the problem lies with the coolant level switch?

Try removing the coolant sensor and cleaning it....Sometimes it can become dirty if the coolant hasn't been replaced at the correct intervals.

Very common on the EFs, at least. The float on the coolant sensor gets brittle with age, cracks, fills with coolant, and sinks - showing a low coolant level. The sensor is available new from Ford. I had to replace mine at about 200,000kms.
