Hi, I have a el Falcon with a low km 98 hybrid engine, since iv purchased the car iv noticed a flat spot between 2000-3000 rpm, when in this "flat spot" the engine seems to be holding back, "chugging" etc, only under load. I have recently replaced fuel filter, map sensor, o2 sensor and a oil change. I have been told by previous owner that there is something wrong with the dizzy. Car is also fairly heavy on fuel and runs very rich, lots of black smoke when i accelerate heavy.

Have you checked the vacuum hoses - especially to the MAP sensor - for leaks? A spray of starting spray will pinpoint any leaks, as the revs will rise when you hit one.
Otherwise, the distributor shaft could be on the way out. Take the distributor cap off and see if there is any play in the shaft - there should be no visible play. Had this problem on my son-in-law's EL with similar symptoms.

Did a complete vaccume check, spray bottled used on entire manifold/map sensor etc, nothing changed, took dizzy cap of (who ever invented the location of these needs to be shot) and i could move the rotor button slightly and could hear a metal "pinging" sound, so i guess iv found the problem, got a new dizzy going in tommorrow, will post results
