Hey guys, have been given an au xr6 engine, and was wondering, instead of modifying the sump, can I swap the ef one over?

Nope.
They bolt up differently.

its possible to get them to fit but SOOOOOO badly it would so not be worth it

id cut the K-frame ( if the car isnt going to get defected anytime soon)

cutting and welding the sump can cause leaks pin hole ones you cant see with your eyes

so not worth it , its only like $150 at MAX to get it welded but just test it overnight with water to see if it leaks :)

Less than five cars I know of have had the AU K Frame conversion done.

Let's just say there is approx 20 times the work required to do the AU K Frame conversion, compared to either modding the AU sump, or getting your EF K Frame adjusted.

it would be pretty dam cool though due to you could run AU off set wheels upfront then do a s**t load of work and put an AU diff in and be all "legal"

The differences between the E series sump and the AU sump will not allow a direct bolt up. The end caps on the AU are a different size to the E series caps. I do know of one fitment of an E series sump to an AU motor but this was done by filling the gap with masses of silicone, something I would not recommend. You could,if you were determined to fit the E series sump, make up metal filler plates. You would be better of modifying the sump as part of the strength of the AU motor comes from the side bolts which tie into the main caps. Also by the time you made filler plates you could have the sump modified.

Read through the second thread well as this has a lot of information on the AU motor install as well as the bit on fitting an E series sump to an AU motor.

Why would you cut the sub frame? Cutting and welding the sump is now common practice. As for leaks and pin holes, use a welder that knows what he is doing. I have had 5 sumps done for people now and no leaks, I have cut them and preped the plate, also modified the baffle plate. No issues to this date.

Cutting AU Sump V Cutting K Frame;

a) Cutting the sump does not effect the intergrity of the moter or the chassis, you would be lucky to loose 300ml of oil capacity. As for going through motors, once the sump is cut you can reuse it at the cost of a sump gasket.

b) Cutting the K Frame effects the structural integrity of the front end, If you have an accident and it is spotted by the Insurance Company you are stuffed and leaves you open to all sorts of legal charges from the Police. If someone was killed in the accident you may find yourself on a manslaughter charge if not murder. If you think that cutting the K Frame and just welding it is all that is needed think again. When welded there are weak points on either side of the weld and theses need to be treated accordingly and then you need to have the car engineered. Cut sump no such issues.

Look at the difference in size and strength of the K Frame from an EB and an EF. Do you think Ford would do such an upgrade unless there were improvements to be had. Car manufacturers are tight a*** they spent nothing unless they have too. The EF front end is a big improvement in strength and stability over the EB type K Frame.

Yes if you use the K frame form an AU this is correct, If you use AUII uprights ETC, you will also be able to run larger brake set up. AU diff and offset is the same alround.
"LEGAL".... No.... It would still need to be engineered, as would cutting the E series K Frame, to be legal.

Do the sump modification, the whole process is simpler in the end.
