hi all, bought an auto ef falcon about 6 weeks ago. when i bought it i knew it had an oil leak but wasnt to fussed as it was tiny. now in the last week its started to leak alot more. Theres oil all over the sump and near the mid and rear of the engine. I took it to a mechanic and he sed it was the oil pressure sender which he was right (changing that on thursday) but i dont think oil could go from the sender to the sump, though the car is on a slight angle upwards. so is there another leak? My first thoughts were that either the front and rear seal needing replacing, but the mechanic sed its most likely just the sender
is he right? cheers scott |

Hi,
Well, my first thoughts are gravity and the air flow over the engine. The oil sender is a little in front of the middle of the engine. So, coupled with gravity pulling the oil down and the airflow from the thermo fans would push the oil down and back along the engine and sump. When you change the sender, degrease your engine ( careful around electronic ignition parts) and you will see if you've solved the problem. If not, the site of the leak will be more apparent. Hope this helps, Evan.

Very highly likely its the sender.
There's limited areas for external oil leaks on the 6cyl engine, besides the obvious front/rear/chain tensioner and timing cover. The other area's are Oil sender, Filter and passenger side between the head and block. nearly all the cars that leak reasonably bad are the sender.

I don't know where the coil packs are mounted on the EF's. Probably under the induction manifold with everything else so it's really hard to get at If you spray degreaser on the engine and wait 10 mins for it to soak in, a regular hose should do the trick. You may have to scrub at tougher deposits.

My EF XR6 has the same issue, im assuming for the moment its the sender unit but because its leaking and spun everywheremaking it appear as tho the sump has a massive leak and it leaks from everywhere so a good clean would help work out the exact spot

Funny story about oil leaks.
One time at work, we were testing a fire pumpset with a 6.8L John Deere engine. Someone forgot to put a bung back in the block. So, when I started it up, oil shot about 5 metres across the workshop! Another time someone disconnected the oil feed hose to the turbo. And then forgot to put it back on. As a result when we turned it over, oil shot straight up, 3 metres in the air! Fun times... Extreme oil leaks...

I think that I have the same issue...
Out of curiosity, what does something like this cost to repair.....I think that I have the same issue. (I know that everyone charges different, just want a general idea) |
