TROYMAN wrote: it may have something to do with the au having a throttle cable= instant throttle responce, and fg having fly by wire throttle= slightly delayed responce??? After a few more weeks familiarity, you ae exactly right, troyman. That pause, then you need more power to get where you wanted to be. So it's more powerful than the AU but invites very oozy driving. I just hate the throttle lag. It's really spoiling things. Only time I'm happy with it when I'm driving mum to the airport!!!!! It's just a computer config. How do I get it fixed? |

I took the lobotomised FG down to BPT Motorsport & Battens Performance, Inspiration Way, Wangarra. Spoke to Barry.
Barry used a PCM and put the throttle ratio to 1:1, mbt & border spark. The FG has woken from its coma! Hooray! Its responsive under foot. The power is immediate, tractible. I now have a drivers car. Barry says its got maybe 10 more horsepower, but I wouldn't know and don't really care. What matters is that the car pushes forward exactly when I expect it. Now I can deftly push out the apex, rather than have the front wander past waiting for the throttle to kick in. now I can coordinate the steering and the throttle inputs, Oh Joy!!!!! What a pleasure to drive. NO MORE THROTTLE LAG. If anyone is thinking about this, think no more. Just Do IT. Now the disgraceful lesson for Ford, that I feel its my duty to point out. This mod cost be a nice dollar. And in fact all it needs to be is a setting that your local ford dealer is able to select for you. Still, what would the nice Barry at BPT do then during his coffee breaks? |

Not too car savy mate, got an FG myself and have noticed the exact same thing. Makes around town driving annoying, you either don't give it enough pedal and she goes nowhere and go down too far and end up spinning the wheels
What is this PCM you speak of and what does it do? And if you don't mind me asking how much did it set you back? |

All this would be intentional programing by ford. That way all they need to do is 5 secs program work on the XR6 to get the sharper throttle response.

Are you able to do this with the BA's also?

and I thought cars were supposed to get better the newer they are....I drive an XB and at work we have BF wagons , an FG and a Toymota Tarago...guess which is best to drive...the Tarago....I cannot get my head around the way Ford have set these late models up.... In the BF's, for example, you cannot spin the wheels. At all. If you brake up, then mash the throttle, they just go errrrrrrrrr...No spinning, no nothing. Then, once you hit about 80/90 kph, they all of a sudden get really fast. If it was just one car, I'd think it had something wrong with it, but both wagons and the FG do it too. I'd much rather drive my car anyday.
