How would the fuel pressure regulator play a part in high fuel consumption? I have no idea how it works.

i have a bf mkII fairmont ghia 6 cylinder zf auto and it's stock except for a lukey air filter and around town is 10.2 to 10.4 highway 8.8 to 9 and it has done 94XXX kays, the average fuel currently reads 10.1, and i always use 98 fuel.
it gets driven briskly and ocassionally in sport mode auto and manual, engine is still running the stock spark plugs and coil packs from factory. but on my ed i cleaned the oxygen sensor and it lowered my fuel consumption a little bit cheers, bear |

I too am having this problem with my BA xr6 NA and I am curious to find out what exactly should be checked to get the fuel consumption back down. Mine sits at like 15.6 or above and doesnt go any lower, even if i am driving with a heavy foot or not.
I had been using 91 instead of 98.. Should the fuel filter be checked/replaced. Recently installed a growler air intake.. thoughts?

I have no idea how it works. ive heard they can "tear" inside like as in there is a diaphragm thing in them also or something i get about 1km to the tank , i idle for about a hour a week and move it up n down the back yard to work on it and chew thru 20L every week and a bit but ive done everything here injectors , 02 sensor , cat , fuel regulator , all filters , plugs and coil and dizzy etc and got no air leaks but buy the coils there about $75 on eBay which is a steal to be honest if it seems to misfire or have a hesitant kind of feel to it all of a sudden ? |

Switching from 98 to 91 won't help at all because the ECU now has to re map it's fuel management and timing. (to be vague)
The car may need a software upgrade. Probably just needs a good tune. |
