Hi all. I'm pretty inexperienced with all thIs stuff to be honest so I'm just after people's advice. I have a '04 BA XR8 and everything is standard except for the air filter. I want to get a decent note from the exhaust without going and changing cams etc. What is the best and/or cheapest way to do it? Do I get a whole new system or can I just change headers/extractors etc. again I'm very inexperienced so any advice is great

It's far from the cheapest but IMO The Di Filippo Big boys system complete with cats and headers is both the best sounding and peforming combo.

If your on a budget then paccies, with some highflow cats and a custom twin system will do the trick

OK....

I have Hi-tech Headers on mine (au2 Fairmont V8) with a single 2 1/2 inch exhaust (Redback cat back system)....i liked the tone i was getting but there wasn't the 'definition' in the growl of the exhaust note that i wanted.....so i stuffed around with a couple of resonator sizes (Rear Muffler) till i found that an eight inch resonator did the job i was after.....kept the tone deep, gave me a bit of volume but under throttle gave me a nice growl that said 'im a v8' with out screaming 'look at me'!!!

Reckon you could budget about 2k-3k and come away with a very nice sounding vehicle....you may be able to do it cheaper.

Yes, i agree with the others in that Headers (pacemakers are good) and for you a dual cat back system are a must.....mabye check out other members cars and see what you like......I kinda like Hooker mufflers and may well fit one in the coming weeks....

Anyway...heres a clip of my car at idle and under throttle to give you an idea of the tone i liked....your taste may differ, but at least it's a start. You will need speakers with decent bass for the clip to get the full effect.

Cheers and good luck.

Mate thanks for the compliment......reckon people like exhaust notes either deep or choppy.....a small res sure helps with the choppy sound, a big res will deepen the sound, but you loose alot of the definition....

I reckon theres room for improvement with a Hooker Aerochamber....:)...Still given it's only a single 2 1/2 inch pipe.....im pretty happy with the end result.

Cheers

Are highflow cats really that important? I've heard murmers that the cats don't really restrict anything, any truth to that?
