My still new to me '97 XH ute has the straight 6 4 litre motor with a 4 speed auto box.
On occasion when slowing for a roundabout or slow corner it will cut out or try to. Typically the revs will drop to 750 or less and it feels like the box is dragging the motor down. It doesn't happen all the time, in fact on very few occasions. It seems like taking my foot off the brake allows the revs to pick up from the stall point, but it doesn't try to run away on it's own. Is the box supposed to disengage at a certain speed/rev limit? Any ideas or comments? Cheers |

It will probably be the ICS - Idle Control Solenoid. Have a good mechanic check it, or just replace it.
Does the revs increase when the a/c turns on?

Cheers Sooty, I've not used the A/C much, but I'll check that, IIRC the revs do rise when it's on.
Would that indicate that the ICS is working ok? I'm a good mechanic (well I think so anyway) is it possible to check it myself i.e. resistance values or the like. P.S. WTF is it located? |
