"Now im looking at getting 2 12 inch dvc 4 ohm alpine type s sws-12d4 subs that have 500 rms each. Now ive been told that these will work great with this amp if i wire them up as 2 ohm dvc through 1 channel at 2 ohms. "
he's already been told to wire them the way I said, so FordFairmont its you thats confusing him |

I honestly could not be bothered correcting each part of his posts because i dont think he wants to listen. |

All I can say lowlane98 is contact your local audio installer and see what they recommend. Please, once they tell you to run it via 2 ohm let us know. That way this thread wont turn into a pissing comp

79raven wrote: That way this thread wont turn into a pissing comp nah, you just have no idea what your talking about, which is surprising as the answers i have given are very simple. Why the hell would you tell him to get those DVC 4ohm subs and only use 1 set of coils on each of them? This effectively cuts each subs rated power in half to 250wrms, and the amp will out spit out 919wrms in 2ohm mode. THATS HOW YOU BLOW THE SUBS, JUST LIKE YOU SAID !!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. He has a choice of buying two Alpine 4ohm DVC subs (SWS-12D4), and wire them so the amp pumps out 1000wrms in 1ohm mode. This is ok as the amp is 1ohm stable !!! 2. Or he can buy two Alpine 2ohm DVC subs (SWS-12D2), and wire them so the amp pumps out 919wrms in 2ohm mode. This is preferable as the power is very similar to what the 1ohm is pumping out anyway and the amp wont be running as hot. If the power difference was greater then i would insist on running in 1ohm mode. |

OK well, by what you guys are saying, i think im going to get the alpine type s sws-12d2 dvc 2 ohm subs and wire them at 2 ohm on my amp.
I've got one last question, my amp is 2 channel mono block, so when i wire them up as 1 channel do i wire the ( - ) wire to one channel and the ( + ) wire to the second channel?? Or do i wire it like normal to one channel and leave the second channel untouched?? Hope you can understand what i'm trying to explain. I'm didn't mean to start a argument over this topic, sorry guys. Thanks for all you help and input guys it is much appreciated as i don't know a lot about car audio. |

if it's really a monoblock. it's only 1 channel. but has 2 sets of terminals. makes it easier to wire up two subs.

edit: data_mine beat me to it
monoblock amps only have one channel alot of them have 2 sets of inputs to make it "easier" to wire up 2 subs, but its still only one channel. the best way to wire up a pair of subs, is to join up all the terminals inside the box, then run a single positive & single negative to the amp. Just tidier that way. |

channels, inputs lol there's so much to learn
So what i meant to say was 1 positive (+) to one input and one negative (-) to the second input? since it has 2 inputs. Or do i use one input for both positive and negative wires? Thanks |

Doesnt mean extra channels there is only one channel, so it doesnt matter where you run the wires, piggyback the same inputs, or use seperate ones.......... all the same your better off following those diagrams i posted instead of running 4 wires to the amp i have one of those alpine dvc subs, and they come with a short cable which lets you link terminals easy without having heaps of wires going everywhere inside the box http://cas07.businessflow.ms/Current/Me ... d016929c00 Last edited by FordFairmont on Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:28 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

I've run 2ohm amps at 1ohm. Was fine, the trouble was 800wrms into a 300wrms sub
