Reposting this from the V8 category.
I need another intermediate shaft for my EL and of course Ford no longer produce these parts. I believe I have tried Bursons etc in the past but no joy. Does anyone know if aftermarket intermediate shafts are available and if so, where from?

Vic, As far as I am aware, nobody is doing aftermarket or refurbished intermediate shafts. Best option is finding one out of a wreck and hope for the best. then become a tightass and start stockpiling the f**k.

Intermediate shaft? Do you mean tail shaft? You can get them reconditioned.
Cheers ToranaGuy

Nah, intermediate shaft from steering column to the rack.
They are getting rare.

Ford stopped doing them about 5 years ago now.

Couldn't one be reconditioned with new pins & bushes if you were desperate? I know I've thrown a few good ones out when car's go to scrap, so I should start keeping them shouldn't I? Cheers ToranaGuy

This is the second one I've worn out and it lasted only a few years from the heat of the headers and I got it from Ford just before they stopped selling e-series parts.
I'm still hopeful that someone is doing an aftermarket version.

I take it that there was play in the pin where the bottom Uni Joint connects?

The uni joint itself was in fact fine, no wear in its movement.
The smaller pin underneath it ( in the attachment below ) was worn and received a couple of welds. This saved me over $200 in finding another new intermediate shaft. ~ Incidentally, yes, the V8 shaft was about an inch shorter than the I6 shaft.
