that has nothing to do with the gear on the distributor, if that gear did anything to affect the way your car ran it would either be the dizzy isnt adjusted rite and them timings out, or if the gear is stripped than none of the spark plugs would be getting spark,

hmm well there ya go i may be wrong lol, maybe pull the dizzy out and see if its a chinese one or if its genuine bosch and then have a look down the hole, also look at the gear on the dizzy shaft, when i stuck a torch over the hole of my els buggered motor you could see the metal shavings sitting inside the hole, could stick your finger around the hole and feel them so maybe its worth pulling it out and having a decent look incase it is what troyman said

A failed Aux gear is a pretty spectacular thing, once the dizzy is pulled its easy to diagnose.

When you fitted the AU motor, did you swap over the gear from the oil pump drive on the AU motor to your dizzy?

Gears that were in the AU motor matched, I would say that the Aux gear or dizzy gear is stuffed or on the way out. Miss-matched gears are not great idea and have in the past caused Aux gears and or Dizzy gears to fail. Pull the dizzy out and check the gear, look down the hole and check the Aux gear. See how they look, check the teeth for wear.

What did this turn out to be?
My car was doing this exact thing just recently, but today decided to pack in and stop all together. I suspect it's the TFI or hall sensor, as the fuel pump will prime, but not run while cranking. If I turn key quick enough and get it to crank while the pump is still priming, it will start for a second. |
