I remember seeing the very first Snorts manifolds that sold for $800. What were they made out of. It wasn't sched 10. For the price they were fine. Happy to be corrected, but I always thought the factory ford BA-FG manfiolds were stainless steel. |

Yer, but I think they are cast stainless steel. I realise its not the same as the aftermarket manifolds been made out of stainless, but clearly Fords thinking was stainless was a better material to use of the turbo manifolds..

No cast like the N/A manifolds... Stainless steel looks nice.. But in most cases the nice s/steel manifolds can crack over time.. Give me thick walled mild steel and ceramic coated any day !!! Cast holds the heat in which is good and don't flow too badly for turbo application... Gets me the keyboard jockeys on here..Want bling buy a ricer !!!

Just found this. I thought I remembered reading something about this when the BA's came out..

As with any manifold.. Compared to N/A.. The centre bolt holes hold manifold in place..
While the outer holes require larger holes to allow for expansion with thicker bigger washers.. If this is not done the flange plate / manifold will warp !! No matter what it's made from...

I've been researching and planning my build for a good 12 months and am about to start putting it all together. The one thing that I am still struggling with is which manifold to use. I'm installing a BF XR6T motor into my el xr6 and I want to use a T04z. Drag racing is a sport where the man with the deepest pockets generally has the most success. My car is intended to be a fast street car that I'll occasionally take to the drags and powercruise for fun. Numbers aren't really important to me but as an indication of the performance I'm looking for I want to see power at 400rwkw+ and a 1/4 mile in the mid to low 11 sec bracket. The thing I look for most in a street car is mid-range torque. I want to accelerate hard on the run and punch it quickly out of corners. If I wanted an 8 sec pass I wouldn't even bother with a road registered car, and I wouldn't be using a T56.
I have called and spoken to Geoff, Kyle and Leigh and they can all supply a kit to suit my needs. Geoff was probably the first I spoke to and it was some time ago so he won't remember my call; he is definitely very passionate but I disagreed with some things he was suggesting to me about sohc vs. dohc motors and engine management. At the time Snort was still focusing on e-series falcons while 6boost and ETM were creating a name for themselves with the b-series falcons. I never make a decision based on these forums; I ring around different tuners to see what they recommend based on their experience with different products. So far they all recommend 6 boost simply because they’ve used the product and it’s worked and Kyle has been excellent to deal with. I think if Snort marketed more towards b-series owners we would start to see more of their stuff at tuning shops and start to get more feedback. Forget about the sohc cars, you already have a following, and when you have had some success with the b-series, more e-series owners will naturally follow. Make yourself a sponsor at fordxr6turbo.com and make yourself known. These cars make heaps of power really easily; if you do a group buy of the stage 4 manifold and maybe plenums as well, it won’t be long before you see some cars pulling the numbers that everybody loves to hear about. I really want to buy your product, but if the man tuning my car tells me he tuned a car with a 6 boost manifold last week and it made this much power/torque with this much boost and was spooling at this many rpm’s, I’m going to be feeling very confident. Geoff, I really think you need to spend less time on the internet arguing with morons, and more time on the phone making friends with some big name tuners. |

im currently building up a vct motor for turbo (bought for the pricey sum of 100 bucks ) and am for sure going to use a snort performance kit (most likely stage 2 because funds are low and i can still reach my target of 200 rw/kw). I had never heard of snort about a year ago, but my mate fitted a stage 3 kit to his au xr6. now this thing made 238rwkw with stock computer, auto, inadiquate fuel system which even suprised the tuners. However if snort want to, they can supply me a kit to test out lol.. there are to many variables to say that the change of turbo manifolds made a differance, things like air temp, road temp, tyre pressure, fuel quality, tyre condition, and of course driver reaction. and if the motor was rebuilt between the switch of products, then of course the results and comparisons are going to be tainted. compression lost is a kw less

its been ages but this build i started with has ended up in townsville qld as for my fist engine it went bust at 314rwkw when the dowle let go on my timeing gear.
since then atomic performance sorted me out with cossworth forgies and supperlegra hbeam rods while i scraped my haltech plaitnum sport 1000 because it was dropping tunes and now run my microtech LT-16 with my snort stage 4 kit which was what started this whole forum as for my kit it has been fine and havent had one probblem with the manifold or my plenum cheers snort! i am now running my same setup snort stage 4 kit with iceman plenum microtech ecu and bosch indo coils, billet fuel rail 60lb injectors fuel reg walbro intank pump and a c4 with 3g stall with my lsd 3:45 so as for the last engine running 12psi i was running my tune at 314rwkw so i am expecting to pump a little more boost 16 psi and with this new setup and engine im hopeing to hold a solid tune at a easy 350rwkw. when i was asking all these ? to start this build i wasent to sure what direction i was going to head with it but i will have to say i have been more than happy with the kit i got from snort. |
