Hi guys,
I am running an au maf on my 5.0l EF with a 425 impco mixer. The engine specs are pretty much 220kW AU but with a gas cam. It runs ok but I was wondering if I gut out the Maf and just leave the tube in it (Cut out the support casting) whether it will run better or worse?? Anyone done it?? I realise running a gas mixer is a pretty big restriction anyway but I have a spare Maf and some spare time (Always dangerous!!). Thanks in advance Fitter |

dont muck around with the maf housing
all that ugly metal protruding inside has been taken into account with the factory tune regarding the way the air flows around it. changing that, means having to change the tune |

Listen to FordFairmont, If you modify the inside, the transfer function of the MAF will not match the airflow through it. That is; the Volts versus Air Mass will be quite different and the EEC load calculations will be wrong and could lead to detonation.
It just so happens that using the AU MAF housing on a E-series is actually doing just what I mentioned but, it happens to work ok, leaning the mixture just enough and causing load calcs that increase spark a little without too much problem on most cars and results in a small power gain. As you say yourself there's not a great deal of point to modifying it if your gas mixer is still a restriction. |
